West Virginia Roadkill Cookoff – Late September

The state laws of West Virginia allow people to gather road kill and use it for a variety of purposes, including cooking the critters up for dinner. Not ones to back away from a plan just because some people might recoil at it, the people of Pocahantas County, West Virginia, resolved to celebrate their new source of country road vittles, Nearly two decades later, they’re still going strong. At the heart of their annual harvest festival, amid the toe-tapping music and baking apples, participants show off their best roadside recipes to their peers.

Anyone who enjoys a good road trip knows the danger of accidentally creaming some poor critter on the unforgiving highway. Why not be responsible and turn that next unfortunate highway mishap into a great meal?
