LAND SHARK
By Joseph Citro, author of Weird New England
Well, they’re whales, actually. You can spot them cavorting in the field along that stretch of Interstate 89 near Burlington between exits 12 and 13. Because Vermont is New England’s only landlocked state, you may be surprised to see a pod of whales in a pasture where cows ought to be grazing. But, a mammal is a mammal, after all. And remember, 10,000 years ago, most of Vermont was sea bottom. So if we told you that you were seeing the ghosts of whales, that would be a tall tale. The I-89 Whale Watch is in reality a novel bit of statuary placed there by Randolph sculptor Jim Sardonis. Officially, it’s called "Reverence," to symbolize the planet's fragility. So keep your harpoons holstered.

WHALE TALES
I was driving to Vermont when I came across this odd and wonderfully weird site. Along the fields and mountains I came across these "Whale Tails" on Rt. 89 by or in Burlington.  Is it some whale cemetery? All I kept asking myself is WHY?? It made me laugh and I thought of Weird NE. Just wanted to share my road site attraction out of state. Enjoy.
