THE WAILING BABY OF SENSABAUGH TUNNEL–KINGPORT, TENNESSEE
The Sensabaugh Tunnel, off of Big Elm Road in Kingsport, is an abandoned and imposing structure that was once the site of great tragedies and is now home to many mysteries.

There are many stories of murders taking place within the tunnel. One says that a homeless man kidnapped a baby from a local family. He hid within the tunnel, but soon began to panic. In desperation, he drowned the baby in the creek that runs within the passage. Now the baby’s restless spirit resides within the dark expanse.

Another story says that a young pregnant girl was kidnapped and murdered within the tunnel. Now both her spirit and that of her unborn child remain behind to torment any and all who enter.

Lastly, there is the story of Mr. Sensabaugh. He lived near the entrance of the tunnel with his family, until he lost his mind. He killed all of his family, including his newborn son, and hid their bodies in the creek inside the tunnel.

All of these legends (which oddly all feature tales of babies dying) have attracted many thrillseekers to the tunnel over the years. People report hearing screams and footsteps, as well as the wailing of a baby. If one drives into the tunnel and shuts off their car engine, the car will not start again. People have seen phantoms approaching their vehicles in their rearview mirrors, and have seen strange lights rush towards them down the length of the tunnel. Some people have even said that after driving out of the tunnel they have discovered baby-sized handprints along the sides of their cars.
